Allan Bolton 'in a nutshell'

Allan's health and fitness industry involvement during the past 20 years has encompassed many areas from working as a freelance aerobics instructor in the early ‘80s through to gym management and on to be a leading community and industry educator. This has given him a unique insight to the professional aspects of health and fitness industry. Providing him with an opportunity to help shape the future of a young and dynamic industry as well as enhancing and touching, in a positive way, many peoples’ lives.

 
Health & Fitness Program Development

Over the past  20 years Allan has pioneered many new concepts that have been responsible for increasing the community’s standard of health and fitness at many levels. He provides information and services to the general public, medical specialists, corporate health organisations, university students, fitness professionals and specialist sporting groups.

Since 1993 has played a major role in the on-going development of the very successful GutBusters Waist Loss Program for Men.

Responsible for the conceptualisation and development of GutBusters for Women.

Developed the physical activity component of the Weight Watchers Australia
SUCCESS 1,2,3, ™ program launched in 1998.

Updated and edited the content of the 1995 edition of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation’s (ACHPER) NSW Fitness Leader Training Program, Fitness Leader Level I.

Developed Network’s* 1996 Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer Program, Fitness Leader Level II.

Developed / edited 4 courses for The Federation Internationale des Sports Aerobics and Fitness (FISAF) which will set the standard for Professional Fitness certification throughout 38 countries:

  • Core Fitness Course
  • Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer Course
  • Aerobic Instructor Course
  • Aqua Instructor Course

Developed the Walk, Talk and Learn Program, a community based healthy lifestyle program.

Developed several units of the Fat Loss Leaders course levels I & II - Bioenergetics, Exercise Biochemistry and Fat Loss, Exercise Prescription

Community Service

Allan believes everyone has a responsibility to contribute freely to the community. Whenever possible he provides his skills to charitable interests. His crowning achievement to date in this area was the instigation and organisation in 1988 of the ‘Workout for Diabetes’ which between 1990 and 1994 raised over $100,000.00 net for diabetes education and research.

AFAC - Australian Fitness Accreditation Council
AFAC is the accreditation body for fitness professionals in Australia. I was first accredited with AFAC in 1986. I am currently AFAC accredited in the areas of Aerobic Instructor, Fitness Instructor and Aqua Instructor.
AAESS - Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science
I am a member of the executive board of AAESS. The AAESS was developed to meet the professional needs of exercise and sport scientists in Australia. It works to act as a vehicle for career advancement and provides a professional code of ethics for its members. I am a full member of AAESS with specialist accreditation in Exercise Physiology and Sports Physiology.
ASSO - The Australasian Society for the Study of Obesity
ASSO is an association that is dedicated to the science-based treatment of the 20th Century epidemic - obesity. I am a full academic member of ASSO.
ANF - Australian Nutritional Foundation
The ANF is dedicated to achieving healthy nutrition throughout the Australian population. It provides many nutritional resources and scientific literature updates. I am a full member of the ANF.
Network for Fitness Professionals
Network is the Southern Hemisphere's largest association for fitness professionals, I am a VIP member of Network and a primary technical consultant.
GSSI - Gatorade Sports Science Institute
The GSSI provides exercise scientists with the most recent advances in sports science through seminars and publications like the Gatorade Sports Science Exchange. I am a member of the GSSI.
ASCA - Australasian Strength and Conditioning Association
I am Accredited as Level I - Strength and Conditioning Coach through the ASCA and the Australian Coaching Council
IDAA - International Diabetics Athletics Association
IDAA is an international network that exists to enhance the quality of life for people with diabetes through exercise. It provides access to information for athletes with diabetes about their specific needs. I play an advisory role for people involved in endurance sport.
DA - Diabetes Australia
The mission statement of DA is 'to help all people with diabetes - all of their lives'. In addition to being a full member of DA I consult to them on both a voluntary and professional basis.
YPG - The Young Peoples Group

The YPG is a branch of DA, which provides support for young people (18-35 years), with insulin dependent diabetes. I act as a role model, consultant and speaker and educator for this group.
